Description

When we grind our organic buckwheat into flour, the hulls are removed in the process.  They have a unique pyramidal shape that does not pack together, providing lots of air space and a light texture.  These hulls can be used as mulch for your garden, providing a good cover to prevent the soil from drying out, while the dark colour also attracts heat.   These are listed as the dirty hulls for a cheaper price ($5/bag).

We also run the hulls through a series of fans and screens to remove the dust/flour.  The cleaned buckwheat hulls can then be used as pillow or mattress stuffing.  These hulls are listed as the clean hulls for a more expensive price ($10/bag).

Each bag is 15 lbs of hulls (an extra large pillow-case in size).

We are taking a break from grain milling to go on a bike-trip adventure with our kiddos!!!

Yay for us, but not so great for your porridge pots….we will not be filling website orders until we return in mid-March. If you do choose to place an order, we will keep it on hold and will get in touch after March 17th to arrange home deliveries or a pick-up location in Winnipeg. Additional grains from our winter CSA will also be available to order after we return.

In the meantime, our 9kg bags of oats are available at Stonewall Family Foods, Local Meats & Tasty Treats on St Anne’s Rd, Nature’s Farm in Steinbach, and can also be ordered through Fireweed Food Co-op or De Luca’s on McGillivray Ave. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we take some time away.
