Winter Grain CSA
Our Grain Bundles are designed to help support farmers by making the very best use of what is locally grown and available here in Manitoba. They are a collection of grains, seeds, oils, flours and pulses grown on organic farms around the province, and processed/milled either by us, or the farmer growing the crop (if they have processing/cleaning capacity on farm) to minimize the carbon footprint of transportation.
All the items in the shares are certified organic, and in addition, some are products that otherwise would become “on-farm food waste” (downgraded to animal feed or composted) because of being a smaller quantity, or because of lack of processing available here in the province.
This year, three share types are available – the Full Grain Bundle includes some gluten-containing products like ancient grain flours. Our Gluten-Free Bundles are safe for those with gluten intolerances, and our Mini Grain Bundles are just a preview – our most popular and user-friendly items for those just dipping their toes into world of local grains.
Additional add-ons are also available if you are already purchasing a grain bundle and want more of certain items to top up your winter supply.
The grain bundles will be available for pick-up from a warehouse in central Winnipeg in late January.
Our zero-waste model means that you will need to bring your own containers to help us to minimize packaging. Jars, pails, yogurt containers, even brown paper bags, and re-used ziplocks are all fine! And we always have extra paper packages on hand just in case you’re missing a few. It’s not about having a picture-perfect system worked out, it’s about doing our best to reduce packaging waste in every way we can.
